Why You'll Love It

A quick stir with the distributor needle breaks up clumps and spreads grounds evenly in your portafilter, reducing channeling and improving extraction. The flick WDT tool is small to hold and easy to store. Retracting the needles means less chance of damage. A simple upgrade that delivers cleaner, more consistent espresso every time.

Even extraction, better espresso

Straight from the grinder, coffee lands in clumps with dense and loose spots across the basket. Water races through the loose patches and skips the dense ones — that's channelling, and it's behind most sour, bitter or just-plain-inconsistent shots. The Flick's fine needles break up those clumps and redistribute the grounds into an even bed, so water flows uniformly and your extraction actually reflects the work you put into your grind and dose.

Flick to retract

The clever bit. The needles extend with a press and retract with a quick flick of the wrist, tucking safely away when you're done. No exposed pins poking around your bench or drawer, no bent needles, no fuss — just a clean, self-contained tool that's ready the moment you are.

Fine but durable needles

Six 0.4mm stainless steel needles are fine enough to move grounds without gouging your basket, and tough enough to hold their shape shot after shot. Gentle on your gear, thorough on your puck.

Fits every machine

Because a WDT tool works inside the basket, it isn't tied to a group-head size — the Flick suits 51mm, 54mm and 58mm baskets alike. Breville, De'Longhi, Sage, Gaggia, E61 and beyond: if you dose into a basket, this works for you.

How to use it

Dose your grounds into the basket, extend the needles, and stir gently through the coffee in small circles to break up any clumps and level the bed. Retract with a flick, then distribute and tamp as normal. It adds about ten seconds to your routine and takes a lot of guesswork out of the cup.

FAQs

What does a WDT tool do?

WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) uses fine needles to break up clumps and evenly distribute coffee grounds in the basket before tamping. An even bed means water flows uniformly through the puck, which reduces channelling and gives you more consistent, better-tasting espresso.

What's the "flick" part?

The needles extend with a press and retract with a flick of the wrist, so they're protected and out of the way when you're not using them - safer to handle and store than a fixed-needle tool.

Will it fit my machine?

Yes. A WDT tool works inside the basket, so it isn't size-specific - the Flick suits 51mm, 54mm and 58mm baskets across Breville, De'Longhi, Sage, Gaggia, E61 and more.

Do I still need a distributor and tamper?

They do different jobs. WDT breaks up clumps and evens the grounds; a distributor levels the surface; a tamper compresses the bed. WDT is the first step, and it's the one that tackles clumping the others can't fix.

How do I use it?

Dose into the basket, stir the needles through the grounds in small circles to break up clumps and level the bed, then retract and tamp as normal. It adds around ten seconds to your routine.
