Installation - Breville 58mm

1. Unscrew the centre bolt and remove the stock shower screen and plastic diffusion plate together from the grouphead.
2. Clean any residue from the grouphead - a full backflush before fitting is recommended.
3. Place the new stainless steel diffusion plate against the HD shower screen with the indent facing up toward the machine.
4. Place the contact mesh against the shower screen with the mesh facing down toward the puck.
5. Screw the screen and diffusion plate together into place using your existing bolt.
6. Run a rinse cycle before your first shot.

Dialling In After Installation

After fitting the HD set your existing grind setting may produce a faster or slower shot than before - this is normal. More even water distribution changes how your puck extracts. Start from your current grind setting and adjust from there:

- Shot running too fast or weak - go finer on your grind
- Shot running too slow or bitter - go coarser
- Aim for a 1:2 ratio in 25–30 seconds (e.g. 18g in, 36g out)

Most people settle within 2–3 sessions. If you use a bottomless portafilter, the extraction pattern will tell you immediately when you've dialled in - look for a steady, centred flow with no spurting or uneven streams.

Two Problems, One Kit

Breville's 58mm grouphead has an additional component that the 54mm range doesn't - a plastic diffusion plate sitting directly behind the shower screen. This plate receives near-boiling water under pressure on every shot. Over time it warps and degrades, compounding the uneven distribution already caused by the mesh shower screen.

Most grouphead upgrades only replace the shower screen and leave the plastic diffusion plate in place. The Pesado HD V2 58mm set addresses both components - a 18-channel stainless steel shower screen and a fully redesigned 100% stainless steel diffusion plate replace every plastic and mesh component in the water distribution system.

What's New in the V2

The V2 diffusion plate has been redesigned with reduced weight and thickness compared to the original. This gives more headroom clearance inside the grouphead - important for Oracle and Dual Boiler owners who use automatic dosing, where machines tend to fill baskets generously. The additional clearance means the screen no longer presses into the puck before extraction begins.

The V2 set is also now compatible with both single and double shot baskets. The included 0.2mm contact mesh adds a further layer of diffusion and prevents grounds pushing up into the channels, reducing cleaning frequency.

Why does the 58mm set include a diffusion plate?

Breville's 58mm grouphead has a plastic diffusion plate sitting behind the shower screen that takes the full force of near-boiling water under pressure on every shot. Over time this plastic warps and degrades, adding to the distribution problems already caused by the mesh shower screen. Replacing only the shower screen leaves half the problem in place. The BR58HD set replaces both components at once.

Breville 58mm machines: Dual Boiler (BES920), Oracle (BES980), and Oracle Touch (BES990). Not compatible with the Oracle Jet. For Breville 54mm machines (Bambino, Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch), you need the separate 54mm BR54HD screen instead.

Is this compatible with single shot baskets?

Yes - the V2 BR58HD set works with both single and double shot baskets. This is an improvement on the original version which required double baskets only.

What's included in the box?

The MV-HD set includes three components: one 58.35mm HD High Diffusion Shower Screen, one 100% stainless steel diffusion plate, and one 0.2mm contact mesh with pin. You use your existing shower screen bolt to install - not included in the box.

How is this different from the 54mm version?

The 58mm set includes three components versus two in the 54mm set - the key addition is the stainless steel diffusion plate, which replaces the plastic one unique to Breville's 58mm grouphead. The 54mm machines don't have a separate diffusion plate, so they only need the shower screen upgrade.

Will I need to re-dial my grind after installing?

Yes - expect to spend a session or two adjusting. The improved water distribution changes how your puck extracts. Most people find they can go slightly finer on grind and still hit their target extraction time. Start from your current setting and adjust based on what you taste.
