How is this different from your standard Coffee Puck Screen?
Both screens use the same 150μm stainless mesh and do the same job - even water distribution, less channelling, a cleaner group head. The difference is thickness:
- Coffee Puck Screen (1.7mm) - the standard. A more substantial, rigid screen with a bit more heft.
- Slimline Puck Screen (1mm) - a lower profile that takes up less headspace in the basket, so it has minimal impact on dose capacity and sits more easily in tight group heads.
Neither makes "better" coffee than the other - they filter identically. Pick based on fit and feel. If you dose high, run a machine that's tight on clearance, or have fitted a thicker shower screen, go slimline. If you prefer a heavier, more rigid screen, the 1.7mm standard is for you.
How to use it
Dose, distribute and tamp as normal, then place the screen flat on top of the puck before you lock in the portafilter. Pull your shot as usual. To clean, tap it out with the puck and rinse - give it a deeper clean or soak periodically to clear the mesh.
Built to last
Stainless steel construction stands up to daily heat and pressure without warping, so it holds its shape and keeps performing shot after shot.
